Palpitation

Internal Medicine

Type 1: Palpitation due to deficiency of the heart-qi
Symptoms:
Palpitation accompanied by fear and fright, shortness of breath, lots of sweat in the palms, lassitude with difficulty in falling sleep. Symptoms are relieved after rest. there if thin and white tongue coating and thready and rapid pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Nourishing qi and tranquilizing the mind. Select points from Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin, Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin, Front-Mu points and Back-Shu points. Needling with reinforcing method.
Prescription:
Xinshu (BL15) ( Xinshu (BL15)), Juque (CV14) Front-Mu Point of the Heart (RN14), Jianshi (PC5) Jing-River Point (Jianshi (PC5) Jing-River Point), Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point (Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
For fear, Daling (PC7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point (Daling (PC7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) is added; for excessive sweat, Gaohuang (BL43) (Gaohuang (BL43)).
Type 2: Palpitation due to dificiency of heart-blood
Symptoms:
Palpitation aggravated by over thinking and overworking, sallow complexion, vertigo, blurred vision, shortness of breath, pale tongue, thready and rapid pulse. The symptoms of dysphoria with feverish sensation in the chest, dream-disturbed sleep, dryness of the mouth, tinnitus, redness of the face, a deep-red tongue tip, tready and rapid pulse are diagnosed as hyperactivly of fire due to yin deficiency.
Principle of treatment:
Nourishing the blood and arresting palpitation. Select points from Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin, Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming and Back-Shu points. Needling with reinforcing method. Moxibustion can be added.
Prescription:
Geshu (BL17) (Geshu (BL17)), Pishu (BL20) (Pishu (BL20)), Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point (Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point), Shentang (BL44) (Shentang (BL44)), Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
For dysphoria, Laogong (PC8) Ying-Spring Point (Laogong (PC8) Ying-Spring Point) is added; for tinnitus, Zhongzhu (KI15) (SJ3) is added; for redness in the face due to deficient fire, Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) is added.
Type 3: Palpitation due to phlegm-fire
Symptoms:
Occasional palpitation, restlessness, stuffiness in the chest, dizziness, dream-disturbed sleep, easy wakened, bitter taste in the mouth, cough with thick and sticky sputum, yellow urine, stool difficult to discharge, yellow and greasy coating, slippery and rapid pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Clearing evil-fire and relieving sputum.Select the points from three Yin Meridians of hand and the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. Puncture with reducing method.
Prescription:
Lingdao (HT4) Jing-River Point (Lingdao (HT4) Jing-River Point),Ximen (PC4) Xi-Cleft Point (Ximen (PC4) Xi-Cleft Point),Feishu (BL13) (Feishu (BL13)),Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point (Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point),and Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
For insomnia, Lidui (ST45) Jing-Well Point (Lidui (ST45) Jing-Well Point)is added. For dry stool, Dachangshu (BL25) (Dachangshu (BL25)) is added.
Type 4: Palpitation due to blood stasis
Symptoms:
Palpitation continues for years, condition getting worse gradually, dyspnea, or paroxysmal pain in the chest, dark purple complexion and tongue, thin and uneven pulse or knotted and intermittent pulse, Even deficiency of heart-yang, severe palpitation, cold limbs, cough with short-breath, unable to lie flat, cold perspiration, dropsy, barely palpable pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Activating blood circulation and strengthening the heart. Select the points from the Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin, the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin, the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin, the Ren Meridian. Puncture the points with even manipulation.
Prescription:
Quze (PC3) He-Sea Point (Quze (PC3) He-Sea Point), Shaohai (HT3) He-Sea Point (Shaohai (HT3) He-Sea Point), Qihai (CV6) (RN6), and Xuehai (SP10) (Xuehai (SP10)).
Modification according to symptoms:
For barely palpable pulse, Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point), Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point (Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point) are added. For dropsy, moxibustion at Shuifen (CV9) (RN9).
Cautions and precautions:
Acupuncture not only control the symptoms of palpitation, but also regulate and treat the disease. When signs of herat failure occur in organic disease of heart comprehensing treatment should be given in time according to the condition of disease.
