Heatstroke

Internal Medicine

Type 1: Mild Cases
Symptoms:
Cases with summer-heat associated with dampness retaining in the exterior, manifesting as dizziness, headache, fever, little sweat, heartburn, vomiting, excessive thirst, tiredness and sleepy, white and greasy fur, soft and rapid pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Inducing diaphoresis to dispel summer-heat. Regulating the stomach and resolving dampness. Select points in Du Meridian, Hand-Yangming, Foot-Yangming and Pericardium Meridians.Puncture with reducing method.
Prescription:
Dazhui (GV14) (DU14), Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point), Xiangu (ST43) Shu-Stream Point (Xiangu (ST43) Shu-Stream Point), Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point), Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point)
Modification according to symptoms:
For headache, Touwei (ST8) ( Touwei (ST8)) is added. For vomiting Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach (RN12) is added.
Type 2: Severe Case
Symptoms:
Cases with summer-heat attacking the pericardium, manifesting as high fever, anhidrosis, skin with a feeling of burning, flushed face, conjunctival congestion, dry mouth, extreme thirst and drinking a lot, coma, dysphoria, clonic convulsion, red and dry tongue, full and rapid pulse. Cases with excessive heat damaging both qi and yin, manifesting as dripping sweat, pallor, tachypnea, cold limbs, deep coma, deep-red and uncoated tongue, thready, rapid and feeble pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Clearing away summer-heat. Tranquilizing mental stress and inducing resuscitation. Select points of Du Meridian, Foot-Taiyang and Pericardium Meridian Puncture with reducting method,and prick for blood-letting.
Prescription:
Baihui (GV20) (DU20), Shuigou (GV26) (DU16), Shixuan (EX-UE11), Quze (PC3) He-Sea Point (Quze (PC3) He-Sea Point), Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point (Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point), Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point)
Modification according to symptoms:
For clonic convulsion,Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) is added. For sweating,cold limbs and extreme feeble pulse, Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine (RN4), Qihai (CV6) (RN6), Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point (Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point), Yinxi (HT6) Xi-Cleft Point (Yinxi (HT6) Xi-Cleft Point) are added.
