Large Intestine Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-long radial extensor muscle of wrist and short radial extensor muscle of wrist-brachioradial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the tributaries of the cephalic vein and the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm. In the deep layer, there are the radial nerve and the anastomotic branches of the radial recurrent artery and vein and the radial collateral artery and vein.


Location:
1. Flex the elbow joint to a right angle; lateral end of the transverse stria of the elbow. 2. Flex the elbow, at the midpoint of the line connectin ChizeLU5 (LU 5) and the external epicondyle of humerus.
Function:
Clearing heat and dispelling the wind for relieve to rheumatic pains, regulating ying blood, lowering the adverse flow of qi and activating the collaterals.


Indications:
Sore throat, toothache, redness and pain of the eye, scrofula, urticaria, motor impairment of the upper extremities, abdominal pain, vomiting, Diarrhea, febrile diseases.


Prescription:
Combined use with TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of hypertension and somnolence; with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of eczema and neurodermatitis, with SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)) and XuehaiSP10 (Xuehai (SP10)) for treatment of urticaria; with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point), ShousanliLI10 (Shousanli (LI10)), NeitingST44 (Neiting (ST44) Ying-Spring Point), XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point), SanyinjiaoSP6 (SP6) for treatment of edema; and with ShousanliLI10 (LI10) and FuliuKI7 (Fuliu(KI7) Jing-River Point) for treatment of high fever.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 1.0-2.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness radiating towards the upper arm and hand; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
