1 Data
  There are totally 30 patients with 11 male and 19 female; youngest patient is 19 years old and oldest 74; shortest duration of disease is 3 days and longest 4 years; etiology of hiccups include: 18 patients with esophageal hiatal hernia, duodenal ulcer and atrophic gastritis; 7 patients with hiccups caused by abdominal distention after surgery; 2 patients with kidney failure; 3 patients with surgery because of pancreas cancer, cholangiocarcinoma and cirrhosis.


2 Treatment method
  Primary points have Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach, Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point, Sanyinjiao (SP6).
  Secondary points have P6, LIV3
  Modification: add Cuanzhu (BL2) if treatment is not successful.
  Stimulation depends on body constitution of patient, in general we prefer medium stimulation. Reducing method should be used for patient with severe hiccups and strong body constitution, mild stimulation or less needles and moxibustion should be applied for patient with weak constitution. Retaining of needles are 20 minutes, treatment is once a day, 5 times are considered as one course.


3 Effect standard
  Obviously effective – hiccups more than 3 days is cured after one course of treatment.
  Improved – hiccups is relieved.
  No effect – no improvement after three courses of treatment.


4 Treatment result
  Obviously effective – 22 patients ( 73.3% )
  Improved – 6 patients ( 20% )
  No effect – 2 patients ( 6.66% )
  So total effective rate is 93.3%.
