Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-orbicular muscle of eye.
In the superficial layer, there are the supratrochlear nerve of the frontal nerve, and the branches or tributaries of the superior orbital artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the temporal and zygomatic branches of the facial nerve.
Location:
Upright sitting with one`s back propped or supine position; on the medial border of the eyebrow, 0.1 cun within the eyebrow.
Function:
Improving acuity of vision, expelling the wind, and purging away the heat.
Indications:
Pain in the supraobital bone, phrenospasm, headache, myopia, night blindness, hypopsia, acute conjunctivitis, retinal hemorrhage, optic atrophy, leucoma, lacrimation, blepharospasm, facial paralysis, and severe syncope.
Prescription:
Combined use with SibaiST2 (Sibai (ST2)) for treatment of blepharospasm; with TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5), HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of conjunctivitis; with ShangyangLI1 (Shangyang (LI1) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of thrombosis of central artery of retina; with JingmingBL1 (Jingming (BL1)), HeguLI4 (LI4) for treatment of electric ophthalmitis.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly or horizontally 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension, radiating toward the orbit; moxibustion with moxa- stick for 5 minutes.
