Lumbago

Symptoms:
Lumbago caused by cold-damp: pain, heavy sensation and numbness in loins, difficult to move the waist, or refered pain to thigh and limbs, onset in cold and damp weather. Lumbago caused by overstrain: old loins injury, aggravated after overstrain, stiff and painful in loins, hard pronation and supination, bloodstasis in the collateral branch of the large meridian. Lumbago caused by deficiency of the kidney: slow onset, slight continuous pain.

Principle of treatment:
Acupoints in Foot Taiyang, Shaoyang, Shaoyin Meridians, Du Meridian are selected mainly, and Ashi points as supplementary. Puncture with moxibustion or cupping therapy.

Prescription:
Shenshu (BL23) (Shenshu (BL23)), Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point (Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point), Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon), Yaoyangguan (GV3) (DU3), Zhishi (BL52) (Zhishi (BL52)), Sanyinjiao (SP6) (Sanyinjiao (SP6)), Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point), Mingmen (GV4) (DU4), Ashi points.

Modification according to symptoms:
For acute lumbar sprain with severe pain, Shuigou (GV26) (DU26) is added with reducing method; for bloodstasis in the collateral of the large meridian, bleeding therapy with three edged needle is applicable.
