Internal Medicine

Remitting hemiplegic spasticity in apoplexy is difficult. We found out that puncturing deeply the acupoints of superior-spasm side by needles to obtain the intensive needling sensations in the deep tissues until the superior spasm was immediately remitted; tap the skin on the inferior-spasm side by skin needles until the corresponding muscle contracted. These methods have showed a significant immediate and long-term therapeutic effect.

Application: Using Daling (PC7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point, Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point, Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point, Bi Zhong treated the patients with difficulty in extension of wrist and fingers caused by the superior spasm. The therapeutic effect of PC7 was the most obvious among the above acupoints. By acupuncture through Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point to Houxi (SI3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point, the number of fingers in which spasm was remitted increased with the increasing of the acupuncture depth. In spasm with difficulty in extension of the elbow, Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point and Tianquan (PC2) on the affected side could be punctured deeply as the above method. For low-extremity rigidity and knee inflexibility, Futu (ST32), Fengshi (GB31), and Xuehai (SP10) could be deeply punctured, so that the superior spasm of quadriceps muscles could be remarkably remitted. The deep acupuncture at Chengshan (BL57) and Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point might show a spasmolytic effect on the gastrocnemius muscle, manifested by the resistance decrease in the passive dorsiflexion of the ankle. For talipes varus due to superior spasm, the deep acupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP6), Zhaohai (KI6) The Eihgt Confluent Point might exhibit a significant effect.

There was no needle retention during operation; two sessions were given every day, and 30 sessions constitute one course of treatment. Through the treatment of 40 HSA cases, it has been proved that the effect of this acupuncture method was rapid but non-lasting. It should take one course of treatment to obtain a significant persistent therapeutic effect.
