Small Intestine Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-abductor muscle of 5th finger-short flexor muscle of 5th finger.
In the superficial layer, there are the dorsal branches of the ulnar nerve, the palmar branches of the ulnar nerve and the subcutaneous superficial vein. In the deep layer, there are the proper ulnar palmar artery and the vein and the proper palmar digital nerve of the 5th finger.


Location:
Clench the fist; on the posterior border of the 5th metacarpophalangeal joint, on the end of the palmar transverse stria, at the dorso-ventral boundary of the hand.
Function:
Tranquilizing and refreshing oneself, and removing obstruction in the channels and collaterals.


Indications:
Pain and rigidity of the neck, tinnitus, deafness, sore throat, mania, malaria, acute lumbar sprain, night sweating, febrile diseases, contracture and numbness of the fingers, pain in the shoulder and elbow.


Prescription:
Combined use with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)) for treatment of epilepsy; with TianzongSI11 (Tianzong (SI11)) for treatment of mastitis; with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of cervical spondylosis; with HuantiaoGB30 (Huantiao (GB30 )) for treatment of lumbago; and with LaogongPC8 (Laogong (PC8) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of icterus.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-2.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
