Location:
Lie supinely or proper sitting with one's back propped; on the mid-sternal line, at the 1st sternocostal joint.
Function:
Removing heat from the lung, relieving sore throat, and removing food stagnation.
Indications:
Pain in the chest, cough and asthma.
Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of tonsillitis; with QihaiCV6 (Qihai (CV6)) for treatment of gastroptosis; with HuagaiCV20 (Huagai (CV20)), DanzhongCV17 (Danzhong (CV17) Front-Mu Point of the Pericardium), TaiyuanLU9 (Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point), JianjingGB21 (Jianjing (GB21)), JianzhongshuSI15 (Jianzhongshu (SI15)), and ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of asthma; and with ZusanliST36 (ST36) for treatment of dyspepsia.
Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local distention and pain; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
The point should be punctured toward the anterior and inferior aspect instead of deeply toward the posterior aspect, due to fact that posterior to the thymusgland there are the left brachiocephalic veins, the aortic arch and its branches.
