Small Intestine Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-trapezius muscle-rhomboid muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the posterior branches of the 8th cervical nerve and the cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 1st thoracic nerve. In the deep layer, there are the accessory nerve, the branches of the dorsal scapular nerve and the transverse cervical artery and vein.


Location:
Upright sitting or pronation; firstly, locate DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)), 2 cun apart from DazhuiGV14 (GV14) laterally ( at the lower border of spinous process of the 7th cervical vertibra ), at the end of the transverse process of the 1st thoracic vertebra approximalely.
Function:
Promoting the dispersing function of lung; regulating the flow of qi, activating the collaterals, and alleviating pain.


Indications:
Cough, asthma, pain in the shoulder and back, and hemoptysis.


Prescription:
Combined use with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of cervical spondylosis, with QiuhouEXHN7 (EX-HN7) for treatment of hypopsia; and with JianwaishuSI14 (Jianwaishu (SI14)), DazhuBL11 (Dazhu (BL11) Influential point of bone), FufenBL41 (Fufen (BL41)) , FeishuBL13 (Feishu (BL13)), JueyinshuBL14 (Jueyinshu (BL14)), XinshuBL15 ( Xinshu (BL15)), GeshuBL17 (Geshu (BL17)), QihuST13 (Qihu (ST13)), ShufuKI27 (Shufu (KI27)) and KufangST14 (Kufang (ST14)) for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.


Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely 0.3-0.6 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and numbness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the superior posterior serratus muscle-the erector spinal muscle-the external intercostal muscle-the internal intercostal muscle-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip, and cause an injury to lung, leading to pneumatothorax.
