Liver Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-medial surface tibial.
There are the medial cutaneous branches of the leg from the saphenous nerve and the great saphenous vein in this area.


Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; firstly, draw a horizontal line along the medial side of tibia 7 cun above the tip of medial malleolus. at the juncture of the anterior 1/3 and intermediate 1/3 of this line.
Function:
Soothing the liver, and regulating flow of qi and menstruation.


Indications:
Abdominal pain, hypochondriac pain, Diarrhea, hernia, uterine bleeding, and prolonged lochia.


Prescription:
Combined use with HuiyangBL35 (Huiyang (BL35)) for treatment of dysmenorrhea; with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of enteritis; and with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point), QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point), ZhongzhuTE3 (Zhongzhu (TE3) Shu-Stream Point), and YemenTE2 (Yemen (TE2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of edema of limbs.


Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 1-1.5 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention, radiating downward.
