Triple Energizer (San Jiao) Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-4th dorsal interossous muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the dorsal digital nerve of the ulnar nerve and the ulnar part of the dorsal venous network of the hand. In the deep layer, there is the 4th dorsal metacarpalartery.


Location:
Pronate the palm; 1 cun directly above YemenTE2(Yemen (TE2) Ying-Spring Point), in the depression posterior to and situated between the 4th and the 5th metacarpophalangeal joint.
Function:
Clearing away the heat and removing obstruction from the channels and collaterals, and clearing the orifices to improve acuity of audition.


Indications:
Nervous deafness, headache, dizziness, pain in the scapulae, intercostal neuralgia, laryngitis, leucoma, cubital and carpal arthritis.


Prescription:
Combined use with TinghuiGB2 (Tinghui (GB2)) for treatment of tinnitus and deafness; with TaixiKI3 (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of tonsillitis; with TaibaiSP3 (Taibai(SP3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point) for treatment of constipation; with ZhigouSI6 (Zhigou (TE6)), and NeitingST44 (Neiting (ST44) Ying-Spring Point) for the treatment of pharyngitis; with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point), and DadunLR1 (Dadun (LR1) Jing-Well Point) for the treatment of unconsciousness; and with YemenTE2 (TE2) for treatment of swelling in the arm and hand.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularlly, 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-10 min.
