Pediatrics

Infants who attend the health care project are divided into lung, spleen and kidney types:


(1) Lung deficiency type: yang deficiency: dull complexion, pale tongue with plenty of fluid, nasal discharge when invade from coldness, cough, thin phlegm, aversion to coldness, frequent urine, rotten stools. Yin deficiency: flushed complexion, red lip and tongue without coating, dry and sore throat, dry and hard stool, nasal bleeding, night sweating.
(2) Deficiency of both spleen and stomach: yang deficiency: yellowish complexion, pale and flabby tongue, poor appetite, fatigue, distention of stomach after meal, damp and rotten stools. Yin deficiency: dry mouth, preference to cold drink, red tongue, scanty of fluid, dry and hard stools.
(3) Kidney deficiency: yin deficiency: red and flashed cheek, red tongue with scanty fluid, dry and sore throat, nasal bleeding, dry and hard stools, night sweating, deafness, and tinnitus. Kidney yang deficiency: dull complexion, aversion to coldness, frequency urine, enuresis, salivation, thin hair and flatfoot.


Treatment: warming moxibustion is applied once the every other day. After one month treatment, the warming moxibustion is applied once a week for health care.

Acupoints slection: main points: Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point, Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach, Sanyinjiao (SP6), Dazhui (GV14), and UB23. Yongquan (KI1) Jing-Well Point is the key points for moxibustion. Lung deficiency: moxibustion is applied on Feishu (BL13) and Fengmen (BL12). Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point, Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point and Fengchi (GB20). Deficiency of spleen and stomach: moxibustion is applied on Shenshu (BL23), Taibai(SP3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point, Gongsun (SP4) Luo-Connecting Point, The Eight Confluent Point, Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine, Shenque (CV8), and Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine. Deficiency of kidney: Mingmen (GV4), CV4, Qugu (CV2) and Rangu (KI2) Ying-Spring Point.


Results: it is learned from the experience that the infants get very quiet after the treatment of moxibustion, especially on GV14, BL13 and GB20, and they could fall to sleep in 15 minutes. The infants are deficiency on spleen and stomach due to anti-inflammatory medicine, cold and fresh fruits and drinks, and easy to get common cold. Therefore the moxibustion is preferable. It is observed from the disease cases that the moxibustion has the function of warming and tonifying the lung, spleen and kidney.
