TCM practitioners believe that the occurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma mainly is from upper jiao heat-toxin and damp-phlegm accumulation, as well as qi-blood stasis. The radiation is a kind of evil fire-heat-toxin to human body. Many patients after radiotherapy show the signs of yin deficiency and interior exuberance of evil heat. Although the herbs of invigorating blood have the function of Radiosensitization, however the property of many invigorating blood herbs is warm, so we mainly adopt to nourish yin and tonify qi, then apply invigorate blood, remove stasis, and dispel the evil. Hospitalized patients were randomly divided into group A and B in this clinical observation. Group A was a treatment group which had radiotherapy plus Yang Yin Huo Xue Mixture No.1, 78 cases in this group were given this herbal formula. It includes: Tian Hua Fen, Sha Shen, Mai Men Dong, Xuan Shen, Shan Dou Gen, Gang Mei Gen, Dan Shen, Hong Hua, Chi Shao Yao, Shan Zha, Bai Mao Gen, Jin Yin Hua, Huang Qin, Bai Hua She She Cao, Xi Yang Shen, Raw Huang Qi and Di Long. Group B was the conventional radiotherapy treatment group with 78 cases.
Results: Although the two groups of acute oropharyngeal mucosa radiotherapy response were similar to the incidence of the total, but the response grade of the treatment group was lower than it in the control group. In addition, from the initial reaction time of oropharyngeal mucosa, the treatment group was later than it in the control group. There was a significantly different (P<0.05) between the two groups.
