Internal Medicine

My teacher professor Ziguang Guo has 50 years medical experience, especially on treatment of cardiovascular disease. He use self-built anginal basic prescription: Huang Qi 40-50g, Chuan Xiong 15-20g, Ge Gen 20-30g, Dan Shen 20-30g, prepared Shou Wu 20-30g. 1 prescription each day, decocting 2 times in order to get strong decoction, the 2 decoction are divided into 3 parts for taking, among which one part should be taken before sleep.

Modification method:
1. When the angina occurs, we should relieve the symptom and stop pain, take stopping attacking as our purpose. The modification can be described as following: add Pu Huang, Wu Ling Zhi, Jiang Xiang, Chi Shao Yao, Yan Hu Suo if there is severe stagnation. Adding Quan Xie etc to activate collaterals if there is extreme stagnation. Adding Gui Zhi, Roast Gan Cao, Gao Liang Jiang, Bi Ba if there is yang deficiency combining with severe cold. Add Gua Lou, Xie Bai, Yu Jin, Bai Dou Kou, Chang Pu etc if there are phlegm damp and qi obstruction. Adding Yin Chen, Huang Qin, Yu Jin, Mu Dan Pi, Zhi Zi etc if there is heat transformed by phlegm-damp. He found that some patients were accompanied with chronic bronchitis, the symptoms includes cough and asthma, fullness sensation in chest, large amount of sputum etc, it is prohibited for using Ma Huang to dispersing lung qi, because it is easily cause recrudescence of angina or aggravate the angina if the Ma Huang can not be used cautiously, we may choose Xie Bai, Su Zi instead of Ma Huang.

2. For some complications, the modifications are listed as following: adding Du Zhong, Sang Ji Sheng, Jue Ming Zi, Gou Teng or Xia Ku Cao, Ju Hua, Huang Qin etc for patients with hypertension. Add Sheng Mai Yin etc for patients with low blood pressure. Add Shui Zhi, Hong Hua, Tao Ren, Chi Shao Yao etc for patients with particularly high blood viscosity. Add raw Di Huang, Mai Dong, Gou Qi Zi, Di Gu Pi, Shan Zhu Yu, Zhi Mu etc for patients with high blood sugar. For patients have complications of cholecystitis, gallstone, the biliary-cardiac syndrome is easily caused, please stop to use this prescription, Huang Lian Wen Dan Tang with modification can be use instead. For patients with cardiac dysfunction, the dosage for Huang Qi in basic prescription should be 70-80g, adding Gui Zhi, Fu Ling, Bai Zhu. For patients with arrhythmia, add Sheng Mai San, Sheng Di Huang, Suan Zao Ren, Fu Xiao Mai, Zhi Gan Cao etc if the patients’ heart rate are fast; add Hong Shen, Gui Zhi, Dang Gui, Yin Yang Huo even Xi Xin if the patients’ heart rate are slow; add Zhi Gan Cao 10-20g, Ku Shen 10-20g if there is frequent knotted-intermittent pulse.
