1. Blood and qi stagnation: a) irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea-Chuan Xiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Chinese angelica root (Dang Gui), Red peony (Chi Shao), Cyperus tuber (Xiang Fu) and Motherwort (Yi Mu Cao); b) difficult labor-Chuangxiong, rhizome (Chuanxiog) is used with Cyathula root (Niu Xi) and Tortoise plastron (Gui Ban); c) postpartum abdominal pain-Chuanxiong rhizome (Tao Ren) and Safflower (Hong Hua); d) hypochondriac pain-Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Bupleurum root (Chai Hu), Cyperus tuber (Xiangfu) and Curcuma root (Yu Jin); e) numbness of the limbs-Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Red peony (Chishao), Earthworm (Di Long) and Spatholobus stem (ji Xue Teng).2.Headache: a) wind-cold headache-Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Dahurian angelica root (Bai Zhi) and Asarum herb (Xi Xin) in the formula Chuanxiong Cha Tiao San; b) wind-heat headache-Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Chrysanthemum flower (Ju Hua), Gypsum (Shi Gao) and White-stiff silkworm (Baijiangcan) in the formula Chuanxiong San; c) wind-damp headache-chuangxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Notopterygium root (Qiang Huo), Ligusticum root (Gao Ben) and Ledebouriella (Fang Feng) in the formula Qianghuo Shengshi Tang; d) headache due to blood stagnation-Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Red peony (Chishao), Red sage root (Dan Shen) and Safflower (Honghua); e) headache due to deficient blood-Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Chinese angelica root (Danggui) and White peony root (Bai Shao).3. Wind-damp obstruction syndrome (Painful joints). Chuanxiong rhizome (Chuanxiong) is used with Notopterygium root (Qianghuo), Pubescent angelica root (Du Huo), Ledebouriella (Fangefeng) and Mulberry twigs (Sang Zhi)
