85 Cases of Migraine Treated by Scalp Acupuncture and TuinaPosted by: admin on Jul 18, 2008 - 01:32 AMWe have treated 85 cases of migraine by scalp acupuncture and Tuina and received remarkable clinical effects. Needling treatments: choose Touwei (ST8) (both sides), Extra Taiyang (both sides), Extra Yintang through Neiting (ST44) Ying-Spring Point, Shangxing (GV23) through Baihui (GV20), and one A Shi point on the local headache area. Twirl the needles rapidly, 150 times at least in every minute without lifting. Do needling manipulation every 15 minutes and remain the needles for about 50 minutes. Tuina treatments: ask the patient sitting in the chair after needling. The operator dips a little talcum powder with both thumbs and does Tuina manipulations as follows. Mo Fa (stroking manipulation): the operator stands in the face of patient and holds the both sides of patient’s head lightly, and strokes from Extra Yintang to Shenting (GV24) alternately with both thumbs for 50 times, then strokes from Extra Yintang to both sides of Extra Taiyang along the brows separately and kneads circularly on both Extra Taiyang for circles, then strokes to internal occipital protuberance along the line connecting with brows and internal occipital protuberance continuously for 50 times. An Rou Fa (pressing and kneading manipulations): the operator presses on GV20 with both thumbs lapped and fixes the head with other fingers, combines with kneading manipulations also and increases the force gradually for 2 minutes. Zhua Fa (grasping manipulation): the operator extends five fingers and grasps on the head from anterior to posterior consistently with moderate force. Zhi Ca Fa (finger rubbing manipulation): the operator holds one side of the patient’s head while rubs rapidly with the thumb of another hand from ST8 to posterior border of ear along hairline, the other four fingers flex slightly assisting in force, and push and rub at same time. Both hands do the manipulations alternately for 30~80 times. Zhen Chan Fa (vibrating manipulation): if the headache lies on the both sides, the operator stands without changing the position and clings patient’s both temples with both palms; if the headache lies on the forehead or posterior occipital, the operator stands on the side of patients, and clings to the posterior occipital with one palm, while clings to the forehead with another palm. The operator vibrates quickly and combines with palms pressing manipulation following his own breath rhythm for 2~5 minutes.
