Governor (Du) Vessel

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-epicranial aponeurosis-subaponeurotic loose tissue.
There are the branches of the frontal nerve and the branches or tributaries of the fronral artery and vein in this area.


Location:
1. Proper sitting with one's back propped; 1 cun into the midpoint of anterior hairline, or 0.5 cun posterior to ShentingGV24(Shenting (GV24)). 2. If one hasn't the hairline, 4 cun anterior to BaihuiGV20(Baihui (GV20)).
Function:
Refreshing oneself, inducing resuscitation and tranquilizing the mind.


Indications:
Headache, ophthalmalgia, epistaxis, rhinorrhea, and mental disorders.


Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of rhinitis and epistaxis; with BaihuiGV20 (GV20) through ShangxingGV23 (Shangxing (GV23)) for treatment of cerebral arteriosclerosis; with TouweiST8 ( Touwei (ST8)), BaihuiGV20 (GV20), TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5), TianzhuBL10 (Tianzhu (BL10)), HeguLI4 (LI4), and LiequeLU7 (Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis; with ShentingGV24 (GV24) for treatment of long-standing intermittent headache; and with XinhuiGV22 (Xinhui (GV22)), QiandingGV21 (Qianding (GV21)), NaohuGV17 (Naohu (GV17)), and FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of redness and swelling of the face.


Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local distention and pain; moxibustion: using 0.3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
