We have treated 16 patients of ascites from liver cirrhosis with modification of Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang, after comparison with 15 patients given by other treatment, we have obtained good effect.
There are totally 31 patients with ascites from liver cirrhosis who are randomly divided into treatment group and control group.
Treatment methods: patients in both groups take rest by lying on the bed and regular food intake; have limitation of sodium water, and use vitamin C, vitamin B and inosine to benefit liver. We apply diuretics ( in general, 20mg-40mg Spironolactone ) with 3 times a day according to degrees of ascites. If possible, BSA is added. Anti-infection is used if there is infection. In treatment group, we apply Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang including ingredients of Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Dang Gui, Chen Pi, Huang Qi, Chai Hu, Sheng Ma and Gan Cao. Adding Da Fu Pi, Bing Lang, Che Qian Zi for large amount of ascites; adding Jin Qian Cao, Yin Chen, Pu Gong Ying for dampness and heat with jaundice; adding large amount of Bai Zhu (30g-100g), suitable amount of Gan Jiang, Rou Gui, Gui Zhi, Fu Zi for kidney and spleen yang deficiency; adding Niu Xi, Xian He Cao, Bai Mao Gen, Huai Hua Tan for gum bleeding and epistaxis; adding Zhi Mu, Tian Hua Fen, Shi Hu for thirst due to fluid insufficiency; adding Mu Li, Bie Jia, Ji Nei Jin for enlargement of liver and spleen.
Treatment result: patients in both groups are treated from 1 to 6 months with average of 3 months. In treatment group, ascites is totally stopped after 31±7.5 days.
Experience: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is typical formula to reinforce earth, it is used for spleen injury and insufficiency of qi in middle jiao due to overtired. Ascites from liver cirrhosis is differentiated into spleen deficiency including symptoms of lassitude, lazy speech, skinny and loose stool. Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is suitable for treatment of spleen deficiency and has good effect.
