Internal Medicine

Resume: 40 cases of Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS for short) are treated by acupuncture treatment according to differentiation, and the total effective rate is 85.0%. The acupuncture groups are divided into 4 types: Deficiency of spleen and stomach type (the prescription: UB20, UB18, Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine, Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach, Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point and Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point applying with needle warming method);  disharmonious of liver and spleen type (the prescription :UB20, UB18, ST25, ST36 and LV3 applying with even method); deficiency of spleen and kidney yang type (the prescription: UB20, UB23, Mingmen (GV4), CV12, ST25, ST36 and Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point applying with reinforcing method); stagnation of damp heat type (the prescription: UB20, ST25, ST36, SP9 and Zhigou (TE6) applying with reducing method).

Results: There are no statistical significance between the each group; while comparing with western medicine group, the acupuncture group is more effective than the western medicine group, and there are very significant differences between the both groups according to the statistical treatment.Experience: The Modern medical study discovers that the Ach lever of Irritable Bowelsynd-roine patients is higher. Ach is the neurotransmitter which releases from cholinergic nerve impulsed, and reacts on the excitement and contraction function of intestinal nonstriated muscle. The intestinal nonstriated muscle often contracts by stimulation due to high Ach lever for long term, so the defecation is getting more and causes the Diarrhea. At same time, it causes constipation because the Ach stimulates receptor for a long term, the receptor desensitizes and the NE function is relatively prominent. The acupuncture can regulate digestive function. There is nothing organically wrong with intestinal tract in this case, the motor diarrhea is caused by disorder of neurological function. The regulating function of acupuncture is bidirectional benign regulation, and making the motor function of intestinal canal tending to normalization, viz. Promoting the movement of intestine for the hypokinetic disorders, while slowing down the intestine movement for the hyperkinetic disorders. And the needling also markedly effects on regulating endocrine system. The needling influences the secretion content of Ach and NE to keep normal physiologic equilibrium.
