Stomach Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissus and platysma muscle-superficial layer of cervical proper fascia and anterior border of sternocleidomastoid muscl-deep layer of cervical proper fascia and posterior border of omohyoid muscle-constrictor musce of pharynx.
In the superficial layer, there are the transverse nerve of the neck and the cervical branches of the facial nerve. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the superior thyroid artery and vein and the branches of the loop of hypoglossal nerve.


Location:
Proper sitting with one's back propped; 1.5 cun apart from laryngeal protuberance laterally, a locale where the artery pulsates.
Function:
Soothing the chest oppression, lowering the adverse flow of qi, resolving phlegm, and relieving sore-throat.


Indications:
Sore throat, asthma, goiter, dizziness, flushing of the face.


Prescription:
Combined use with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of hypertension; and with TiantuCV22 (Tiantu (CV22)) for treatment of sore throat.


Methods:
Avoid puncturing the common carotid artery, insert the needle perpendicularly 0.3-0.8 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness irradiating toward the hand; moxibustion: using mild moxibustion for 10 min.
