Regional Anatomy:
Skin subcutaneous tissue-linea alba-transverse fascia-extraperitoneal fat tissue-parietal peritoneum.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneous branches of the anterior branch of the 9th thoracic nerve and the tributaries of the superficial epigasteic vein.In the deep layer, there are the branches of the anterior branch of the 9th thoracic nerve.
Location:
Lie supinely; draw a line connecting xiphoid process and umbilicus, a spot on this line, 3/4 apart from xiphoid process, or 1/4 apart from umbilicus. Or, 1 cun vertically above ShuifenCV9(Shuifen (CV9)).
Function:
Warming the stomach and expelling cold, regulating qi and resolving masses.
Indications:
Epigastric pain, abdominal pain, borborygmus, indigestion, vomiting, and Diarrhea.
Prescription:
Combined use with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of chronic gastroenteritis; with NeiguanPC6 (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of gastrospasm; with QihaiCV6 (Qihai (CV6)) for treatment of gastroptosis; and with TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine), and ZhaohaiKI6 (Zhaohai (KI6) The Eihgt Confluent Point) for treatment of dysentery.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 1-1.5 cun depth; needling response: local distention and heaviness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Deep under the point, the organs involved include the greater omentum, the transverse colon, the stomach and the pancreas as well asthe inferior vena cava ( on right side ) and the abdominal aorta ( on left side ) anterior to the pyramid in the abdominal cavity.
