Governor (Du) Vessel

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-epicranial aponeurosis-subaponeurotic loose tissue.
There are the great occipital nerve and anastomotic network of the occipital arteries and veins with the superficial temporal arteries in this area.


Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate; on the posterior median line, 0.5 cun posterior to the midpoint of the line connecting the anterior and posterior hairline.
Function:
Refreshing oneself and easing mind.


Indications:
Headache, vertigo, mania, and epilepsy.


Prescription:
Combined use with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of common cold; with ShuigouGV26 (Shuigou (GV26)) for treatment of hysteria; with YuzhenBL9 (Yuzhen (BL9)), and HanyanGB4 (Hanyan (GB4)) for treatment of vertigo.


Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 0.5-0.8 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: mild moxibustion for 10 min.
