Urine Bladder Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-trapezius muscle-latissimus muscle of the back-inferior posterior serratus muscle-erector spinal muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 10th and 11th thoracic nerves and accompanying arteries and veins. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the posterior branches of the 10th and 11th thoracic nerves and the branches or tributaries of the related posterior intercosral arteries and veins.


Location:
Lie prostrate or pronely; at the level of the lower border of spinous process of the 10th thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cun apart from ZhongshuGV7(Zhongshu (GV7)) laterally.
Function:
Relieving the depressed liver, normalizing the functioning of the gallbladder, replenishing the vital essence and removing heat.


Indications:
Cholecystitis, icterus, vomiting, esophagostenosis, acute and chronic hepatitis, biliary ascariasis, gastritis, lymphoid tuberculosis, axillary fossa lymphnoditis, intercostal neuralgia, laryngitis, pleuritis, and hypertension.


Prescription:
Combined use with ShangyangLI1 (Shangyang (LI1) Jing-Well Point), XiaochangshuBL27 (Xiaochangshu (BL27)) for the treatment of dryness of the mouth; with TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point), YanglingquanGB34 (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for the treatment of infective hepatitis; with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)), ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis; and with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of axillary lymphnoditis.


Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the transversospinal muscle-the external intercostal muscle-the internal intercostal muscle-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip, and cause an injury to lung tissue, leading to pneumatothorax.
