Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis Given by Promoting Genuine Strengthening Exterior and Harmonizing Nutrient-Defensive Qi

The author used the method of promoting qi, strengthening exterior and harmonizing nutrient-defensive qi on treating 48 cases of allergic rhinitis. All the cases in this group have the medical history of iterative rhinitis, the outbreak appeared seasonally and perennially, it always cause “ exogenous attack”. They all have typical outbreak symptoms, they often attack abruptly paroxysmally with the symptoms of sting- itch sensation in nose, sneeze continually, snuffle, snivel etc during attack. Nasal cavity examination shows: pale and dropsical or purple-grey tunica mucosa nasi. Treatment method: basal prescription: Huang Qi, Bai Zhu, Fang Feng, Gui Zhi, Bai Shao Yao, Bai Zhi, Xin Yi Hua, Cang Er Zi, Xi Xin, Huo Xiang, Gan Cao. Modification according to syndrome: it is recommended to use the prescription and adjust the dosage according to the patient’s body condition of cold-heat-deficiency-excess, when there are deficiency and obvious cold syndrome, we should increase the dosage of Huang Qi, Gui Zhi, Xin Yi Hua; when the patient usually has the symptoms of aversion to heat, we should reduce the dosage of Gui Zhi, Xi Xin and increase the dosage Bai Shao, Cang Er Zi; adding Jing Jie, Su Ye if there is wind-cold of exogenous attack; adding Huang Lian root, 3 pieces Cong Bai, Cang Zhu, Jiu Bai in order to communicate yang and dry damp if there is large amount of snivel or severe snuffle; adding Huang Qin, Yu Xing Cao, Zhe Bei Mu in order to disperse wind and clear lung heat if there are wind heat and snuffle with turbid snivel; adding fry Bai Zhu, Gan Jiang, Dang Shen to warm-reinforce middle jiao if there is deficiency cold of spleen-stomach; adding Bu Gu Zhi, Yin Yang Huo, Rou Cong Rong etc that can warm up kidney and strengthen yang to reinforce genuine qi if there are kidney yang deficiency, aversion to cold, cold limbs; It is better for us to add Dang Gui, Chuan Xiong, Chi Shao to promote blood circulation by removing stasis if there is prolonged duration of disease. Treatment result: total effective rate is 95.8%.
