Governor (Du) Vessel

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-orbicular muscle of mouth.
Tere are the branches of the infraorbital nerve and the superior labial artery and vein in this area.


Location:
Proper sitting with one's back propped or lie supinely; at the meeting point of the lower end of philtrum and upper lip.
Function:
Inducing resuscitation and clearing away heat.


Indications:
Mental disorders, lip twitching, lip stiffness, and pain and swelling of the gums.


Prescription:
Combined use with BenshenGB13 (Benshen (GB13)) and HouxiSI3 (Houxi (SI3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of epilepsy; with YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3) and HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of rhinitis; and with XiaohaiSI8 (Xiaohai (SI8) He-Sea Point) for treatment of dysuria and dark urine.


Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely to upward 0.2-0.3 cun depth; needling response: local sensation of distention and pain; moxibustion: using 1-3 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 3-5 min.
