Skin-subcutaneous tissue-parotid gland.
There are the auriculotemporal nerve, and the anterior auricular branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein, and the temporal branches of the facial nerve in this area.
Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate on one's side; open the mouth slightly, in the depression 0.5 cun vertically above TinggongTE19(Tinggong (SI19)).
Function:
Improving the acuity of hearing, purging away the heat, and activating the collaterals.
Indications: Deaf-mutism, tympanitis, lower toothache, mandibular arthritis, and perioral myospasm.
Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of tympanitis; and with WaiguanTE5 (Waiguan (TE5) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of tinnitus and deafness.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-10 min.
