Internal Medicine

Hydrocephalus is commonly caused by obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid circulation channel, which leads to the effect that cerebrospinal fluid does not reach its absorption site or disorder of the absorption site results in the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid. Hydrocephalus is divided into 2 categories: acute and chronic, chronic hydrocephalus appears slowly, its key clinical symptom is chronic increased intracranial pressure, the pathological factors are not entirely clear, thus it is said "the excessive secretion of hydrocephalus "or" serous hydrocephalus ". We deem that, the pathogenesis is blockage of brain collaterals; the body fluid accumulates in spinal marrow, which causes the obstruction of clear Yang and upper orifices. As it is the blockage of brain collaterals, the writer usually uses animal herbs to promote the meridians and remove the obstruction, such as Wu Gong, Quan Xie, Di Long, Chuan Shan Jia. Since the fluid accumulates at spinal marrow, the channel must be drained, therefore, the Wu Ling San, Che Qian Zi, Ting Li Zi, Niu Bang Zi are applied. However, the hydrocephalus is featured as Yin evil, which can not promote Yang, hence, we use Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang decoction, Gui Zhi, Fu Zi, Xi Xin, Ma Huang, Wu Zhu Yu etc. to warm Yang and resolve fluid.

Key words: activating collaterals and promoting Yang, chronic Hydrocephalus
