Traumatology and Orthopedics

The nonsuppurative costal chondritis is named as Tietze disease also and mainly occurs on the young and the middle aged. The main manifestation is algononsuppurative swelling with unknown reason. The author has treated scores of patients and received preferable curative effects. The methods are illustrated as follows:

(1) Clearing away heat and removing toxin: for the invasion of pathogenic wind and heat in meridians and collaterals, Wu Wei Xiao Du is applied.
(2) Dispersing depressed liver qi: Chai Hu Shu Gan Tang is applied when the pathogenesis is directly related with stagnation of liver qi.
(3) Activating blood and dispelling stasis: the pathogenesis invades into blood from qi, or collaterals from meridians. The sharp or burning pain occurs in fixed region. Oppressed chest, short of breath, purple and dark tongue with petechiae, varicosity of hypoglossis, and hesitant pulse. The modification of Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang is applied.
(4) Eliminating phlegm and resolving mass: lingering and dull swelling and pain, repeated outbreak, oppressed chest, fullness and distension in the abdomen, tasteless mouth, poor appetite, dizziness, loose stools, thick and sticky tongue coating, rolling and excessive pulse in most cases. The modification of Hai Zao Yu Hu Tang is applied.
