Traumatology and Orthopedics

The reason of cervical headache is that the pathological changes occur in cervical vertebra, which stimulate or compress the occipital nerve and result in needle-like, knife cuts or radiation pain on back of head, up-down occipital bone and calvaria, or dull pain on back of head, sometimes the pain can radiate to back of mastoid, the orbital area. The characters of it are that pain may induce when the patients rotate their heads; it occurs repeatedly and is difficult to be healed. There are 107 patients with cervical headache who are all diagnosed by X-Ray, by CT or MRI partially. Cervical curvature change to straight, reverse bending, vertebral gap become to smaller, 90% of the patients’ have smaller foraminal diameter, as well as, cervical vertebra degeneration, 16% of the patients have traumatic history, there are 2 cases of tumor on foramen magnum. Treatment method: all the patients were randomly divided into two groups, one of them had been treated by stopping pain medicine but had no obvious effect (63 cases), another group had not been treated (44 cases), two groups all treated by acupuncture. Main points: Fengchi (GB20), Wangu (GB12), Sizhukong (TE23) penetrating needling to Shuaigu (GB8), accompanying point: Houxi (SI3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point. Result: total effective rate is 97.9%.
