Infectious Diseases

The clinical differentiations of SARS are divided into three types. The leucocyte of all the types is normal or decline, X-ray shows schistic, patchy or netty infiltrative shade, and SARS virus can be seen by lab test. These above are the particular syndromes of SARS.

1. Excess of lung heat with damp
Syndromes: high fever, headache, ache of whole body; adiaphoresis, aversion to cold, dry cough with scanty sputum, dyspnoea, or mild Diarrhea. Sticky tongue coating, and rolling and rapid pulse.
Prescriptions: decoction of No. one of Shi Ke San: Ling Yangjiao (GB35) Xi-Cleft Point of the Yangwei Meridian (or Shui Niu Jiao), Huang Lian, Huang Qin, Huang Bai, Xing Ren, Xiang Ru, Bo He, Bai Kou, Huo Xiang, Hou Pu, Ban Xia, Hua Shi, Tong Cao, Yi Yi Ren and Zhu Ye.

2. Excess of lung heat with damp, dampness encumbering the spleen:
Syndromes: high fever, headache, ache of whole body; adiaphoresis, aversion to cold; dry cough with little sputum or sputum with blood; dyspnoea or respiratory distress; poor appetite, diarrhea, fatigue; Yellow and sticky tongue coating and rolling and rapid or soft and rapid pulse.
Prescriptions: decoction of No. two of Shi Ke San: Ling Yangjiao (or Shui Niu Jiao), Huang Lian, Huang Qin, Huang Bai, Cao Guo, Bin Lang, Xiang Ru, Pei Lan, Zhi Mu, Shao Yao, Gan Cao, Xing Ren, Hua Shi, Tong Cao, Zhu Ye, Hou Pu, Yi Yi Ren, Bai Kou and Ban Xia.

3. Vital qi deficiency after pathogen goes
The disease starts to heal, pathogen hasn’t left completely, and the vital qi hasn’t recovered. It is the recovery time.
Prescriptions: decoction of No. three of Shi Ke San: Ren Shen, Mei Dong, Wu Wei Zi, Dai Mao (or Shui Niu Jiao), Zhu Ye, raw Shi Gao, Ban Xia, Gan Cao and Da Qing Ye.
