Cupping can result in subpressure given by suction through different techniques, then local skin, blood vessel, nerve and muscle can be higher than other places, at the same time, patient can feel response of traction, tense, distention, warming, cooling, numbness or comfortable; some patients feel pain during cupping but relieved after a while; after certain minutes of retaining of cupping, or flash cupping, or moving cupping, there are red color, or purple on the skin surface that will be disappeared after 2 to 5 days, so it is normal color change. Few patients can feel obvious response like deep red, purplish dark, pain after slightly pressing that indicate blood stagnation and toxic heat; blisters or vapor in the cup that indicate retention of dampness; no obvious color change on the skin surface indicate invasion of cold or deficient syndrome.
