Verruca Plana is dermal vegetation due to papillary virus infection. Dr. Ruizheng Xu is an expert renowned for his knowledge and experience in this field. He usually use 5 modalities of treatment for Verruca Plana, here I am introducing 2 of them as follows:

Dr. Xu regards the flat wart as closely related to blood stasis, as evidenced by the signs of purple spots on the tongue, sublingual venous engorgement and tortuosity on back side of tongue, associated with dermal pigmentation and slow pulse. Some women may also have irregular or pain menstruation and dark purplish menstrual blood clots. Meanwhile, flat warts may also be related to accumulation of wind and heat in the liver and gallbladder, which can also be dispelled by auricular bloodletting.

Bloodletting otopoint selected: Erjian (LI2) Ying-Spring Point (Apex auriculae) and Lun-1 to Lun-6 (Pinna-1 to Pinna-6). One of these acupoints is used in turn each time for bloodletting. When flat warts are mostly on one side of the face or body, the ipsilateral auricle is adopted.

The method of auricular needle embedment or pellet pressure with otopoints Lung, Liver, Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point, Subcortex and Endocrine are selected. The modifications depend to the location of the warts. For warts in the facial area, Face-Cheek is added for needle embedment or pellet pressure. Since the pellet pressure therapy gives a milder stimulation, it takes a longer course for treatment than does needle embedment.

Key Words: Verruca Plana, otopoint, bloodletting, needle embedment, pellet pressure
