External Medicine

Liver abscess is a kind of singularly surgical disease in clinic. The clinical main pathological  symptoms include right hypochondrium pain, spontaneous sweating and fatigue, nausea and poor appetite, anaemia and fever, even appears squamous and dry skin etc. The author uses Yi Yi Ren Fu Zi Bai Jiang Cao Powder with modification to treat 5 cases of liver abscess and obtains satisfying clinical effect. The prescription and method: Yi Yi Ren 30-50g, Chuan Fu Zi 10-15g, Bai Jiang Cao 50-100g, Pu Gong Ying 30-50g. Adding Yuan Hu 10g if the pain symptom is severe; adding Da Huang 6-10g if the patient with symptom of dry stool (later putting); adding raw Di Huang 15-30g and Mu Dan Pi 10-15g if the patient has symptom of squamous and dry skin. In the prescription, Yi Yi Ren can eliminate damp and expel pus, Chuan Fu Zi has the function of invigorating yang qi, pungency and heat dispersing obstruction; large amount of Bai Jiang Cao can relieve toxicity and expel pus; adding Pu Gong Ying in order to strengthen the function of clearing heat, relieving toxicity, expelling pus; adding Yuan Hu to regulate qi, promote the circulation of blood and stop pain. All the herbs together may have the functions of invigorating yang qi, pungency and heat dispersing obstruction, relieving toxicity, eliminating damp and expelling pus.
