Objective: To compare therapeutic effect of fire needle therapy with filiform needle therapy on treatment of facial spasm.

Method: 127 patients who suffered from facial spasm are randomly divided into treatment group (79 patients) and control group (48 patients). Treatment group received fire needle therapy on Taiyang, Cuanzhu (BL2), Quanliao (SI18) and Dicang (ST4); control group received filiform needle therapy with same points. We observe and compare the therapeutic effect on two groups.

Result: The cure rate and effective rate in treatment group are 64.6% and 92.4%, and, 45.8% and 87.5% in control group respectively. The therapy effect has a significant difference in two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion: Fire needle therapy is an effective therapy for facial spasm, its effect is better than that of filiform needle therapy.
