Treatment of Epistaxis by Qing Re Zhi Niu Tang from Dr. Dajing Xiong [1]

Dajing Xiong is famous expert of TCM ENT department, and good at treating ENT diseases. Now we introduce his experience to treat epistaxis. The ingredients include Sha Shen [3] 25g, Xuan Shen [4] 15g, Sheng Di Huang [5] 15g, Mu Dan Pi [6] 10g, Zhi Zi [7] 10g, raw Da Huang [8] 10g, Bai Mao Gen [9] 40g, Xian He Cao [10] 30g, Fried Pu Huang [11] 10g, Niu Xi [12] 30g. Indications: dry nose, sudden onset of epistaxis with large amount and fresh red color, dry mouth and lip, sore throat, dry cough, red tongue with yellow coating, rapid pulse. Explanation: Sha Shen clears lung and nourishes yin; Xuan Shen clears toxic heat; Mu Dan Pi and Zhi Zi clear heat; raw Da Huang benefits fu-organs and clears toxic heat; Niu Xi induces blood to go downward; Bai Mao Gen cools blood and stops bleeding; Xian He Cao, Fried Pu Huang stop bleeding, this prescription can clear lung, clear heat, cool blood and stop bleeding, modification is taken according to symptoms.
