The Emperor asked: “You say that bandit winds and evils hurt men and make men ill. Now, some people hide behind screens and do not go out of houses. Why do they catch diseases suddenly notwithstanding shunning bandit winds and evils?â€
Qi Bo remarked: “It is because they have once been impaired by dampness. The dampness hides in the blood vessels and muscular striae, lingering and not receding. If the patients get injuries due to a fall or a contusion, the stagnated blood will stay inside and will not disperse. Abrupt, immoderate joy and anger, intemperate diet and improper care of cold and warmth could make the muscular striae closed and obstructed. Meanwhile, the patients are exposed to wind-cold evil and the former evils blend, then cold impediment. If those who are sweating due to heat encounter the wind, though they have not met the bandit winds and evils, these people must fall ill due to the combination of the old and new factors.â€
