Qi Bo answered: "The invasion of cold incurs the beginning of accumulation, and the qi reversal produces accumulation."
The Emperor asked: "what about the formation course?"
Qi Bo answered: "The reverse cold qi makes the feet ache and move inconveniently. The feet ache, thus the shanks become cold. The shanks become cold, thus the blood and vessels become congealed and uneven. The blood and vessels are congealed and uneven, thus the cold qi ascends to get into the intestines and stomach. The cold qi enters the intestines and stomach, thus the abdomen is distended. The abdomen is distended, thus the fluids outside the intestines are forced to coagulate and cannot be dispersed. Gradually the accumulation is formed."
