Nei Jing

Therefore, sages nourish yang in spring and summer, and nourish yin in autumn and winter, so as to obey the root. Thus, the sages perpetually resonate with all living things in the life journey. If one is disobedient to this root, the basis of life will be attacked, and his genuine qi will be destroyed. Therefore, the yin and yang of the four seasons are the beginning and end of all things, and the root of death and life… Being obedient to the yin and yang means life; being disobedient means death. If one is obedient to this, the disease will be curable; if one is disobedient, the condition will be disordered.
