Large numbers of clinical research studies indicate that the traditional Chinese medical treatment is effective and curative effect is accurate. All the cases are out-patients.
150 cases in treatment group are treated by stages according to different stages of menstrual cycle and breast features: (1) premenstrual period (one week before menstrual period): obvious swollen breasts, enlargement of breast mass, and followed with upset, irritability and bearing-down distention, etc. The treatment should be regulating qi by dispersing stagnated liver qi, activating blood, opening meridians, and softening hardness to dissipate stagnation; apply self-made Pi Xiao Tang (Chai Hu, Zhi Qiao, Qing Pi, Chen Pi, Chi Shao, Dan Shen, Shan Zha, Mai Ya, Chuan Lian Zi, Yu Jin, Chuan Shan Jia and Wang Bu Liu Xing, etc.) in main, and add Yan Hu Suo, San Leng and E Zhu. Add Mu Dan Pi, Huang Qin and Sheng Di Huang for heat syndrome; add Mu Li for hard mass. Take in for one week. (2) postmenstrual period (one week after menstrual period): swollen of both breasts are relieved in this period, and breast masses get smaller obviously, and upset and irritability have gone, however, feel themselves fatigue and weakness. In this period, tonify liver and kidney, benefit qi, nourish blood, and regulate Flush and Conception Vessels; apply Ba Zhen Tang with Chai Hu, Zhi Qiao, Qing Chen Pi, Gou Qi Zi, Nu Zhen Zi, Tu Si Zi, Lu Jiao Shuang and Shan Zhu Yu, etc. Take in for one week.
The 150 cases in control group are treated by regulating qi by dispersing stagnated liver qi, activating blood and opening meridians in main, and apply Pi Xiao Tang for eliminating phlegm and mass as basic prescription: and modify it according to different syndromes, and take in for one week.
Results: the total effect is 94.67% in treatment group, and 92% in control group. Curative rates of treatment and control group are significantly different (P<0.05) by statistics processing.
