There are plenty of Traditional Chinese medicine drugs and western medicine drugs applying for infantile common cold and sore throat, however, most of the infants averse to drugs, therefore, the prescriptions run aground. In this research, we treated 123 cases of infantile throat irritation and common cold (corresponding to upper respiratory tract infection, acute simple pharyngitis and catarrhal amygdalitis) by the ointment made of Xuan Ming powder applying on Yongquan (KI1) Jing-Well Point. They are divided into Xiao Zhong Zhi Tong ointment group, 123 cases (briefly named ointment group) and Shuang Huang Lian oral liquid group (briefly named control group). Treatments: in ointment group, apply the ointment on both KI1 in planter centre, and change dressings every 24 hours. The ointment is made of Zhen Zhu powder, Xuan Ming powder and Peng Sha, etc. In the control group, apply Shuang Huang Lian 10ml orally and 3 times a day. The Shuang Huang Lian oral fluid is the syrup made of Jin Yin Hua, Lian Qiao and Huang Qin.

Results: the total effective rate is 89.43% in ointment group, and 90.47% in control group without obvious difference. The zoopery proves that it has the functions of anti-inflammatory and acesodyne, and acute and chronic toxicity tests indicate it has no obvious toxic and side effect. Both of them prompt that it is safe and effective in the clinic.
