Toxicity evil blockage is the chief pathogen and pathogenesis of gout. Method of relieving toxicity is the main therapeutic principle for gout. We use relieving toxicity, excreting toxin, clearing toxicity as the principal method. Herbs with clearing heat function are chief ingredients for method of relieving toxicity, which can prevent toxicity evil’s sprawl; herbs with function of dispersing are main ingredients for method of excreting toxin, which can accelerate the excretion of toxicity evil; herbs with function of relieving stagnation are chief ingredients of method of clearing heat, which may promote the absorption of toxicity evil. Method of relieving toxicity’s basic prescription is Jie Du Xiao Tong Tang with the ingredients of Ren Dong Teng, Tu Fu Ling, Bi Xie, Xu Chang Qing, Sheng Yi Yi Ren, Ze Lan, Ze Xie, Han Fang Ji, prepared Chuan Wu (decoct first), prepared Cao Wu (decoct first), Qing Feng Teng. The whole prescription has the function of relieving toxicity and excreting turbid, activating collaterals, stopping pain. Basic treatment method: relieving toxicity and expelling wind, it can be used for excessive wind-evil, erratic pain etc syndrome. The prescription takes Jie Du Xiao Tong Tang plus Fang Feng, Hai Tong Pi, Hai Feng Teng, Zhui Di Feng. Method of relieving toxicity and dispersing cold may be used for excessive cold-evil, the pain becomes severe when wind-cold attacking, etc syndromes. The prescription uses Jie Du Xiao Tong Tang plus Gui Zhi, Xi Xin, prepared Fu Zi, Tian Xian Teng (decoct first). Method of relieving toxicity and eliminating damp: fit for excessive damp-evil, body heavy sensation, lingering pain etc. The prescription uses Jie Du Xiao Tong Tang plus Song Jie, Can Sha, Yi Yi Ren. Method of relieving toxicity and clearing heat fit for red and swollen of skin and joints, fever and pain etc. The prescription uses Jie Du Xiao Tong Tang plus Zhi Mu, Dan Nan Xing, Ling Yang Jiao (dissolving in the water and taking), Sang Zhi. Method of relieving toxicity and activating collaterals fit for recurrent disease, accompanies with physical weakness etc. The prescription uses Jie Du Xiao Tong Tang plus Dang Gui, Dang Shen, Gu Sui Bu, Quan Xie (dissolving in water and taking).
