Acupuncture Points / Spleen Meridian [2]

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-gastrocnemius muscle-soleus muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous brabches of the leg from the saphenous nerve and the great saphenous vrin. In the deep layer, there are the tibial nerve and the posterior tibial artery and vein.


Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; 3 cun vertically below YinlinquanSP9 (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point [3]), on the posterior border of the medial side of tibia.
Function:
Invigorating the spleen and stomach, and regulating the menstruation and leukorrhea.


Indications:
Abdominal pain and distension, Diarrhea [4], edema, dysuria, nocturnal emission, irregular menstruation, and dysmenorrhea.


Prescription:
Combined use with GuanyuanshuBL26 (Guanyuanshu (BL26) [5]) for treatment of menalgia; with HuiyangBL35 (Huiyang (BL35) [6]) for treatment of prostatitis; with GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine [7]) for treatment of spermacrasia; with ChongmenSP12 (Chongmen (SP12) [8]) for treatment of hernia, and with YinlingquanSP9 (SP9) , ShuifenCV9 (Shuifen (CV9) [9]), YoumenKI21 (Youmen (KI21) [10]) and XiaochangshuBL27 (Xiaochangshu (BL27) [11]) for treatment of anorexia.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 1.0-2.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension, radiating downward to the foot; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
