Hernia

External Medicine

Type 1: Cold hernia
Symptoms:
Colic in the lower abdomen and testes, radiating to chest and hypochondrium, even intolerable, penis retract, retracting with coldness of the scrotum and whole body, cold limbs, pale complexion, pale tongue with white fur, wiry and tense pulse, or deep and sinking pulse.
Principle of treatment:
Warming and eliminating coldness and dampness, dredging the Meridianss. Select the points from the Ren Meridian, the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin. Puncture with reducing method and moxibustion.
Prescription:
Qimen (LR14) Front-Mu Point of the Liver (Qimen (LR14) Front-Mu Point of the Liver), Dadun (LR1) Jing-Well Point (Dadun (LR1) Jing-Well Point), Qihai (CV6) (RN6)
Modification according to symptoms:
For cold extremities, apply moxibustion at Shenque (CV8) (RN8), Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point).
Type 2: Heat hernia
Symptoms:
Distending pain of testes, red swelling of scrotum, accompanied with high fever with a feeling of burning, aggravated by pressure; aversion to cold, mild fever, headache, soreness of limbs, scanty and dark urine, sticky and greasy mouth, curdy, thick, yellow and greasy fur, soft and rapid pulse. If heat declines and dampness still remaines, lapsing of one side may result due to hydrocele testis.
Principle of treatment:
Clearing away heat and promoting dampness, eliminating swelling and dispersing the accumulation of evils.Select the points from three Yin Meridians of the feet. Puncture with reducing method. Moxibustion is unnecessary.
Prescription:
Dadun (LR1), Zhaohai (KI6) The Eihgt Confluent Point (Zhaohai (KI6) The Eihgt Confluent Point), Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point)
Modification according to symptoms:
For distending pain of the lower abdomen, Daju (ST27) (Daju (ST27)), Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine (RN4) are added. For aversion to cold and fever, Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point), Waiguan (TE5) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point (SJ5) are added.
Type 3: Inguinal hernia
Symptoms:
Distending and radiating pain of the lower abdomen and scrotum, even extending to the testes, tenesmus when standing, returning to the abdomen when lying down. In serious case. The testes can't go back to abdomen unless pushed with the hand. Accompanied with poor appetite, shortness of breath, weariness and other symptoms due to relapse attacking or if prolonged, disease can not be cured.
Principle of treatment:
Nourishing qi, raising and stopping the sinking pain. Select the point from Ren Meridian, Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. Puncture with reinforcing method and moxibustion is also adopted.
Prescription:
Guilai (ST29) (Guilai (ST29)) and Guanyuan (RN4).
Modification according to symptoms:
For anorexia, weariness, Zusanli (ST36), Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach (RN12) are added.
Cautions and precautions:
In case of small intestine lapsing into scrotum, even with incarceration and persistent hydrocele, the testes cannot return to the abdomen for a long time, operation is indicated.
