Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior tibial muscle-interosseous membrane of leg-posterior tibial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral sural cutaneous nerve and superficial veins. In the deep layer, there are the deep peroneal nerve and the anterior tibial artery and vein.


Location:
Sit upright or lie supinely with knee joints flexed; at the most obvious pressure point between ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point [3]) and ShangjuxuST37 (Shangjuxu (ST37) The Lower He-Sea Point of the Large Intestine [4]), generally, 1.5-2 cun below ZusanliST36 (ST36).
Function:
Regulating qi and purging the internal heat.


Indications:
Acute and chronic appendicitis, indigestion, and paralysis of the lower extremities.


Prescription:
Combined use with Ashi points and ZusanliST36 (ST36) for treatment of appendicitis; and with ShangjuxuST37 (ST37), TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine [5]) and DijiSP8 (Diji (SP8) Xi-Cleft Point [6]) for treatment of carbuncles of the intestine and appendicitis.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local soreness and distension, radiating toward the dorsum of the foot; moxibustion: using 5-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10-15 min.
