Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-posterior auricular muscle.
There are the great auricular nerve, the posterior auricular branches of the facial nerve and the posterior auricular artery and vein in this area.


Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate on one's side; on the postauricular hairline, at the level of meatus accusticus externa.
Function:
Relieving spasm, improving the acuity of hearing, and activating the collaterals.


Indications:
Tinnitus, deafness, headache, infantile convulsions, vomiting, dysentery, and encephalemia.


Prescription:
Combined use with puncture penetrating from TaiyangEXHN5(EX-HN5) to ShuaiguGB8 (Shuaigu (GB8) [3]) for treatment of migraine; with TinghuiGB2 (Tinghui (GB2) [4]) for the treatment of tinnitus and deafness; and with ChangqiangGV1 (Changqiang (GV1) Luo-Connecting Point [5]) for treatment of infantile convulsions and epilepsy.


Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally, 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-10 min.
