Acupuncture Points / Heart Meridian [2]

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-medial intermuscular septum of arm and brachial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm, the medial cutaneous nerve of forearm and the basilic vein. In the deep layer, there are the brachial artery and vein, the mediam nerve, the ulnar nerve, the superior ulnar collaeral artery and vein and the brachial triceps muscle.


Location:
Extend the elbow; firstly, locate ShaohaiHT3 (Shaohai (HT3) He-Sea Point [3]), at the ulnar end of the transverse cubital stria, 3 cun directly above ShaohaiHT3 (HT3) , on the line connecting JiquanHT1(Jiquan (HT1) [4]) and ShaohaiHT3 (HT3)
Function:
Refreshing oneself and improving eyesight and dispelling wind and relieving pain.


Indications:
Pain in the cardiac and hypochondriac, shoulder and arm regions.


Prescription:
Combined use with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point [5]) for treatment of arthritis of elbow joint ; with JianyuLI15 (Jianyu (LI15) [6]) for treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and numbness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 10 min.
