Internal Medicine

Angioheadache is a common disease in females. The patients suffer from the pain and their lives are affected for months, or years, even few decades. The author treated this disease by acupoints electric stimulation and conduct and received the satisfying curative effect.

The 60 cases received a thorough physical examination to exclude cerebral tumor, epilepsy, brain injury, the diseases of ear, nose, cavum oris and eye. Did the routine rheoencephalogram examinations to contrast with each other before and after the treatment. There are 42 cases whose cerebral vascular tensity are increased, 15 cases whose cerebral vascular tensity are reduced, 3 cases whose venous return are resisted.

Treatment: Use PNG II acupoints electric stimulation device. The patients hold the cathode in hands, and the doctor hold the treat pole in hands. The intensity of stimulation: 15-25V for adults, 5-15V for kids.

Prescription:
The main points: Sizhukong (TE23), Fengchi (GB20), Extra Arteriae Vertebralis Point, Extra Carotid Point, Zhiyang (GV9), Shenzhu (GV12), LI 11 and Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point.

The secondary points: 1. Pain in occiput: Yangbai (GB14), Fengfu (GV16) and Naoshu (SI10). 2. Pain in vertex: Baihui (GV20), GV16 and Extra Mian shou. 3.Migraine: UB7 of affect side and Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon. 4.Heavy sense and distention of head, sore and weak all over the body, leukorrhagia for long term: UB20, Extra Shang Xian, Qihai (CV6) and Sanyinjiao (SP6). 5.Headache or more severe pain during menses. 6.Distention and dizziness of head: UB19 and Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point. 7.Stiffness, soreness and numbness of neck: Nape Point and Dazhui (GV14). 8.Flush of the head and face: GV12, Foot Area and ST36. 9.Pain in forehead: Extra Mian Shou and Shangxing (GV23). 10. Treatment effect: The total effective rate is 98.33%.

The shortest course is once treatment, the longest one is 14 times and 4 times on average.

Experience

(A) It is a economical, simple, safe method without trauma. The clinical practice prove that it is a effective method of analgesia.

(B) The possible mechanism of action:

1. 60 cases of angioheadache are treated by this method and the symptoms improvement gram is parallel to rheoencephalogram. The result suggests that it is possible to regulate blood vessels of brain obviously by reflecting area of active blood vessels.

2. In the 80% cases, as the symptoms and rheoencephalogram improve, the resistance gets higher and the electric quantity gets lower at the same acupoint under the same stimulate intensity. A known range: the skin resistance gets higher when central inhibition increase. It suggests that the analgesia of this method is obviously related with central inhibition.

Key Words: angioheadache, acupoints electric stimulation, skin
