Acupuncture Points / Stomach Meridian [2]

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-depressor muscle of angle of mouth and platysma muscle-anterior border of masseter muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the buccal nerve of the mandibular branch of the trigeminal verve and the marginal mandibular of t e facial nerve. In the deep layer, there are the facial artery and vein.


Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; close the mouth, bulge the cheek, in a groove appeared along the margin of mandible, where an artery pulsates.
Function:
Expelling wind, clearing and activating channels and collaterals.


Indications:
Facial paralysis , trismus, swelling of the cheek, pain in the face, toothache.


Prescription:
Combined use with XiaguanST7 (Xiaguan (ST7) [3]) for treatment of toothache; with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point [4]) for treatment of facial spasm; with ShouwuliLI13 (Shouwuli (LI13) [5]) and BinaoLI14 (Binao (LI14) [6]) for treatment of scrofula.


Methods:
Avoid puncturing the artery. Insert the needle obliquely 0.3-1.0 cun deep; needling response: face sensation of distension and soreness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
