Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-root of nail.
There are the dorsal digital branches of the proper palmar digital nerve of the median nerve, the anteriovenous network formed by the arteries and veins in the radial side of the index finger and the branches of the first dorsal metacarpal artery and vein in this area.
Location:
Make a loose fist, stretch out the index finger forwardly; at the meeting point of the radial border of the index finger and the base part of the nail of index finger.
Function:
Removing heat from the lungs, relieving sore-throat and inducing resuscitation.
Indications:
Toothache, sore throat, swelling of the submandibular region, numbness of fingers, febrile diseases with anhidrosis, and loss of consciousness.
Prescription:
Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point [3]) and DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14) [4]) for treatment of common cold; with GongsunSP4 (Gongsun (SP4) Luo-Connecting Point, The Eight Confluent Point [5]) for treatment of acute gastroenteritis; with ShuigouGV26 (Shuigou (GV26) [6]), BaihuiGV20 (Baihui (GV20) [7]) and NeiguanPC6 (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point [8]) for treatment of shock; with YangguSI5 (Yanggu (SI5) Jing-River Point [9]) and BaihuiGV20 (GV20) for treatment of tinnitus and deafness; and with JuliaoST3 (Juliao (ST3) [10]), ShangguanGB3 (Shangguan (GB3) [11]), ChengguangBL6 (Chengguang (BL6) [12]); LuoqueBL8 (Luoque (BL8) [13]), TongziliaoGB1 (Tongziliao (GB1) [14]) for treatment of chronic simple glaucoma.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly or obliquely 0.1 cun deep, or prick the point to cause bleeding; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness; moxibustion: using 1-3 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
